I have several Skil tools and I have had excellent results with them. I was interested in this oscillating tool, primarily because the one I have already is an AC-powered one and sometimes dealing with the cord is inconvenient. This oscillating tool has proven to be a good one and I am very happy with it.This kind of tool has a lot of uses, including cutting drywall, shearing off rusty nails and wood dowels, and sanding rough spots, where other tools may do the tasks with more effort. It is maneuverable enough to get into spots where room is tight. And, because it is powered by a battery instead of plugging into an outlet, it is not limited by the length of a cord or the availability of a power source. It has enough power to get through every task I have thrown at it so far.One of the very best features of this tool is that the batteries are swappable with other Skil tools. So, when I am not using my drill I can steal the battery from that and use it with the oscillating tool if I run out of power and need to keep working. So far I have not completely drained the battery, so I do not know how quickly this drains the battery from a full charge, but I do like having the option to swap batteries if necessary.Included is the oscillating tool itself, the battery, the charger, a couple of cutting blades, and a sanding head and supplies.I am very pleased with this tool and expect to get a lot of use out of it. It’s a little easier to work with than my plug-in oscillating tool, it has everything I need in the box, and I can use the batteries from my other Skil tools with this one.

Nobody can argue how useful an oscillating multi-tool like this can be. There are many on the market, from many different manufacturers, and of varying quality levels. What sets this one from Skil apart?By far, one of my favorite parts of this tool isn't a physical part of the tool itself, but rather the 5-year warranty (if you register, 3 if you don't). So many tools like this have 90-day, 1-year, maybe 2-year warranties, but a 5-year warranty is a standout in the industry. And the "story behind the story" is that anyone offering a 5-year warranty is also making a high-quality tool. You don't offer a 5-year warranty for a cheaply made tool and expect to be in business for long. That thinking was reinforced when I took the tool out of the box for the first look. The build quality is exceptional throughout, with nice rubber overmolding and very high-quality plastics in use. It's easy to power on and off with a flick of the thumb, and the speed control offers a wide range.Powering it is an extremely powerful brushless motor and changing the bits (or whatever you call them), though a bit much to figure out at first, is pretty easy once you figure it out the first time. You have to flip up the lever, make sure the bar is in the slot, and then you turn it (quite a few times) to loosen or tighten it. It sounds cumbersome, and the first time I read the instructions I was like, "huh?", but once I figured it out, I was golden, and it does a fantastic job of securing the various bits without play.It comes with a 2.0Ah battery, which is enough for smaller projects, but it can accept larger batteries. I have a 6.0Ah Skil battery that fit perfectly and gave gobs of runtime. It comes with a charger that delivers a mediocre 2.4Ah charge rate, which is far from exceptional, but is at least reasonable and not too terribly slow. If you need better charging performance, Skil does produce faster PWRCore chargers, such as the PWRCore 12 PWRJump Charger, which has a 6.0Ah charge rate, which is over 2x as fast as this one. For hobbyist / home / occasional users, the charge speed is probably not much consequence, but the 5-year warranty might attract professionals to this tool, and a pro would almost certainly require a faster charge time than the charger that comes with this tool, especially with the single 2.0Ah battery. Amazon does, of course, sell the faster charger as well as other Skil batteries, if you are a pro looking for enough power for all day on the job.My complaints about the tool are few. For one, it doesn't come with any kind of case. I wouldn't have minded something for it, even a soft zippered carry bag would have been acceptable, as would an injection molded hard case. The obvious reason being not only for storing the charger and batteries with the tool, but also because one would naturally have an assortment of cutters / sanders / bits whatever for this tool. So, a carry case would have been a big plus.My other complaint is that, while the anti-vibration does a particularly good job as reducing the felt vibration in the hands, making it comfortable to use, it doesn't do very much to dampen the noise, which gets pretty loud, especially at higher speeds, where it sounds like an angry hornet with a huge amplifier. My hope is that Skil puts as much effort into reducing the noise in the next iteration of this tool as they put into reducing the vibration of this one. That would truly make it a stand-out in a crowded market. As it stands now, I highly recommend using hearing protection with this, especially if you're going to use it for any length of time. Of course, that's par for the course for a huge number of hand-held battery-operated (or plug-in) power tools, so it's not unusual in and of itself, some tools are just noisy, it's definitely not a deal breaker. But 5 or 10dB of noise reduction sure would make it more pleasant to use.In all, the lack of a carry case is by far my biggest gripe, with the noise level a more distant concern. The rest is golden. Plenty of power, great build quality, a fantastic warranty (especially if you register it), good runtime (though somewhat mediocre charger), and ease of use combine to make this one of the best oscillating multi-tools that I've ever used. 4 stars, and a recommended buy.

I have a couple of different brands of multi tools to compare this one to and it holds its own. It is fairly lightweight and has plenty of power. The build feels solid but oddly hollow. It’s good quality plastic though. It works like it should and cuts well. The controls are easy to use, just a speed dial and an on/off switch (no variable speed trigger here). Blade changes require you to flip the top lever up and turn the lever to unscrew the piece that locks the blades in. Not as fast as some other systems but it works and doesn’t require any tools. Battery life is decent considering it comes with a small 2.0ah battery. The biggest con for me (you might not mind) is that on higher speeds this is far and away the loudest multi tool I own, almost painfully loud. Hearing protection is likely needed for sustained use. All multi tools are noisy but this is another level. That said, the vibration reduction seems to work well and even at high speeds it was never uncomfortable to hold.Overall this is a good value for a brushless multi tool if you are ok with the noise level. Bigger hands will love the thick diameter of the handle area too. I have medium hands and the size wasn’t an issue for me. I wish it shipped with a larger battery, but that might also change its size profile and make it harder to fit in tight places.
