Whiteside Machine Company has been in the router bit business for over 30 years providing customer with quality products while at the same time striving to achieve complete customer satisfaction. Several woodworking magazines have tested Whiteside versus the competition and selected Whiteside as the winner for best router bits available in the market. Whiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 as a general purpose machine shop in the basement of Bill & Bobbie Whiteside's home. Located in Western North Carolina near the furniture manufacturing town of Hickory, the company was often involved in making repairs or special parts for the furniture and woodworking field. A strong commitment to customer problem-solving, a can-do attitude, and innovative ideas, along with a growing core of dedicated employees, helped the business evolve into a manufacturer of woodworking equipment and tooling. Primarily through repeat business and referrals, the tooling business continued to grow to meet a demand for quality production router bits as well as custom application tooling. Today, Whiteside Machine occupies a 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and produces a complete line of solid carbide and carbide tipped router bits. Whiteside's quality, innovation, and customer commitment is still present in our superb product line, in the design of custom tooling to fill special customer requirements, and in the development of special machinery and tooling for our own manufacturing use. As always, Whiteside Machine is continuously striving to improve our product through new technology, improved production techniques, and ongoing research and development efforts; along with rigid quality control, vital customer feedback and extensive field testing. Whiteside Machine Company.

I use this Router bit to trim the edges of a formica countertop unfortunately the guide marred and burned the formica. Ended up purchasing a whiteside bearing guided bit and that worked perfectly

I have never had a problem with Whiteside router bits. They are well made, high quality and keep their edge for long time. The problem here is the top portion of the bit that is mean to follow an edge or template; It damages the surface it makes contact with. This is not a build quality issue, just the nature of this sized bit. 1/8" cutting diameter is too small to fit a roller bearing on the head of the bit. I imagine it would work well with a metal template but anything else you must use extreme care lest you damage said template surface.

Hey Routerbitworld - get your act together. I bought the up cut version of this (RFT1600) based on the image of this (RFTD1600) product, which erroneously shows a bearing at the tip and a constant diameter between the shank and cutting surface. The actual product's diameter steps down, and has no bearing at the tip. Instead it has just a flat, 1/8" diameter flush surface, meaning you're going to friction burn the template piece if it's wood, or grind it if the template is metal, which it is in my case (a switchplate cover I'm tracing). Look closely at the RFT1600 image if you want to see the correct (minus the spiral direction) RFTD1600 product looks like.

Nice bit. But the trim spinner tip part thing doesn't spin like other bits. It's obvious it's not supposed to, but it'd be better if it did so it doesn't eat away at your template piece. Maybe 1/8" is too small to allow for a spinning tip.

This picture shows it with a bearing. Mine did not come with a bearing and is a piece of crap. Don't buy this.

-The picture is of a completely different bit-This is a 1/4" shank tool. There is no way to tell that in the description at the time of this review, and the picture leads you to believe the shaft and cutting diameter are equal-There is no bearing at the top like in the picture, it just has no flutes there-I ended up spending another $10 on a 1/8 to 1/4 inch bushing, thinking the picture was accurate$34 is a ridiculous price for this bit, given there's no bearing.
