My wife has been into crocheting for a while now and she’s been slowly learning techniques. When we saw this beginner kit with all the materials included, I ordered it so she could give it a try. It’s a nice kit with some great instructions! The kit arrives in a medium sized plastic bag. There’s a tear off strip at the top and the bag can be re-sealed so it's good to keep your supplies in. Inside the bag are three balls of black yarn, some white yarn, stuffing, a techniques guide, an instruction guide, and a plastic bag with tools and hardware. The great part is you don’t need to get anything additional to make this because it's all included and the likeness of the black dragon is Toothless. If you know, you know! The techniques guide is where you need to start because if you go straight to the instructions without any experience you won’t know what the terms mean. There’s also a QR code that brings you to some online instructions, although my wife already knew some of these techniques so she just used the book as a refresher. Then once you know the techniques you can use the instruction booklet to make the dragon.Overall, this is a great beginners kit and while I have seen some easier starter ones, my wife says this one is pretty great and if you take your time and have patience, you can learn a lot from it. If you’re looking to start in crocheting or just want an all-inclusive kit, this one is great!

This little kit ended up cute at the end. I would not recommend for beginners due to some of the stitches were a little difficult to do with out the video tutorial. I ended up getting the black one. The dark black yarn made it a little hard for me to see the stitches since the hook was 2.5mm.The pattern was a little confusing at times but if you also use the youtube video tutorial it will help make sense. At the end of the day I would say 20$ is worth it.Pros:Very cute kit of a little dragon.Learned new stitchesBooklet of how to make the stitches was nice and large with picturesVideo instructions on Youtube.Cons:The pattern pamphlet was extremely tiny and hard to read. The black yarn was a nice color but it was really hard to see the stitches since the hook was a 2.5mm, make sure you have some good lighting so you dont strain your eyes from reading the small letters on the pattern and tiny stitches.

I know these type of kits are geared towards new crafters/kids but they can be tricky even for experienced crocheters. The materials are surprisingly good. The yarn is a bit sturdy and made it a bit hard to work with until I got the hang of it. More eyes than needed, for stuffies, always go big to get the cutest look.Instructions were okay. If this is your first stuffy attempt, you will need the videos. Attaching pieces together takes time. Best to pin in place to be sure placement is right. In the end the turtle is so cute! Definitely keeping for myself.

I always look forward to testing these beginner crochet kits, they always provide a pretty quick, fun project that yields a cute product. I have found that the clarity and quality of the video instructions has the most variability across kits and brands. They all claim to be beginner-friendly, but the instructions are often super unclear. The video instructions for this kit are absolutely beginner friendly. It is broken down into shorter videos so it easy to pick up where you left off and it walks you through each step slowly enough, and thoroughly explained and demonstrated enough, that someone brand new to crochet can follow it.The pattern itself uses only basic stitches so it is beginner-friendly in that respect. It comes with everything you need to complete the project, so this kit is suitable for someone with zero crochet supplies at home. The one thing about this kit that is not beginner friendly is the yarn that is included. From the reviews, it looks like some of the projects come with beginner yarn (basically a solid tube that does not have individual strands). The yarn in this kit is not a continuous tube and instead can be separated into individual strands, which can make it hard for a beginner to identify individual stitches for both counting and where to insert the crochet hook. So if you are a beginner, I would recommend having a look at review photos and pick one with beginner yarn. But overall this is a cute, somewhat beginner friendly kit. I love that it makes 2 elephants so you can keep one and give one away, or display them as a pair.

I am convinced I need a crocheting for dummies book. I am by no means an experienced crocheter, but these beginner kits are hard 😂 I do have to say I love that this kit comes with everything you need from the eyes to the stuffing to the hooks to the yarn. You’re basically set. The quality of the tools, materials, and yarn appear to be high quality. The amount of patience one needs HAS TO be infinite though. I am excited to see the finished product, but dang this is hard.

DIY Handicraft Crochet Kit- "Purple"/Turtle:I'm an avid crocheter at an Intermediate level. This is not my first crochet kit that I've reviewed.Kits of this nature, while often labeled "For Beginners," what that really means is that you should know the basics and have your tension sorted before trying to follow a pattern.Assuming that you can make a magic circle and work within it, you can single crochet, slip stitch, increase and decrease your stitch count, then by all means give these kits a whirl. You are given ample supplies to create a very cute amigurumi (stuffed toy). You will get more safety eyes to stockpile for a future project. The keychain accessories are completely optional. You get a 4mm ergonomic crochet hookThe yarn is very beginner friendly and forgiving. I actually prefer this type of yarn for projects like this. It doesn't split and it's easy to work with. The QR codes are available to access the video tutorial portion. What does stand out is that they offer a tutorial for left-handed crocheters, I've never seen that in the other kits that I've tested. Kudos on that!Overall, I found the written pattern easy to follow, a bigger print would have been nice, but I did the best that I could. My amigurumi skills need more practice, but you can tell that the finished project is a turtle. This project worked up quickly, no issues with the pattern. Quality materials. The only hiccup I ran into was getting the large eyes to work. What I mean is the backing for those large safety eyes was extremely difficult to put on. I opted to use my own 8mm safety eye backings instead. It is for this reason why I am giving this product a 4 star rating, but it should be considered a 4.5 in all fairness. One other slight annoyance has nothing to do with the actual product, but the sales page for this product. Please consider naming the kits with the name of the finished product. This is called "Purple", not Turtle. The others are named by color which is confusing. Just an observation.

This was absolutely adorable! It was easy to do and follow the videos in places where you're unfamiliar with the stitch. The kit contained everything needed and more. The yarn quality is great as well! Love this!

Comes with everything you need for the included project from start to finish. It was a little intimidating when I got started, as I am a true beginner, but I was impressed to find a QR code with videos to help me out. I am still working on this project (cute little dragon), but I am having a great time, and I am confident I will be able to finish it in time. Very pleased with how well put together this kit is, and the instructions that come with it. Very fun and good quality.

I've completed about 6 of these types of crochet kits, and I struggled with this one more than any others that I've done. The pattern itself is not that difficult, but the yarn does split easily, and I found that it sort of tangled on itself within the stitches, making it difficult/impossible to undo stitches when I made a mistake, which meant that I wasted a fair amount of yarn and had to start over on certain pieces. Luckily the kit includes plenty of yarn, so even with my mistakes and restarts I had plenty of materials .The end result was a bit smaller than I expected, and the eyes included in the kit are a bit too big so I substituted some smaller ones from my own craft stash. I left off the arms/legs at the request of my children who preferred them without limbs. The end result is adorble, and worth some of the frustration I experienced.

I recently started crocheting (this is my 7th amigurumi) and couldn’t believe when I found a kit to make Toothless! I have been doing well with the kits I have been doing and thought this looked doable. I have finished the head and so far it has been turning out well and he looks really cute. However, while I think this kit is beginner friendly, I do not think it is appropriate as a first project. This is because (through no fault of the kit) black yarn is really hard to work with! It is impossible to see your stitches without really good light. This is made worse by the quality of the yarn. While it is soft, it splits SUPER easily! This makes it even harder when you already can’t see your stitches well. It also doesn’t seem to glide through my fingers as well as others and tends to get tangled. The kit itself is good. There were scissors included and they actually worked. I have found it’s about 50:50 whether included scissors work, so this is a plus for sure. There were two of the same hook for some reason, but no complaints on that. There were plenty of extra safety eyes, although the ones it shows in the picture were really hard to insert into the stitches as the posts were way too big. I really had to shove them through. I was worried about wrecking all my hard work, but it turned out OK.The instructions are decent. I am mostly following the written pattern, but the videos are good and detailed and not just watching someone crochet to music like other kits I’ve had. They also show someone crocheting a grey dragon, so it is easier to see than the black. However, they are not without issues. In the instructions, it has you add the eyes last by glueing them to the face, when they include safety eyes. So you can’t just blindly follow the instructions or you will fill and sew up the head without adding eyes. They also tell you to fill the head later than you should. Once I got to this step it was hard to fill because the hole was so small. Luckily I have thin fingers, otherwise I was considering pulling out a row or two just to stuff it.However, all of this is worth it to make Toothless! And I plan to use some extra red I have from another kit to make the left side of his tail.

This is a very cute crocheting kit. The avocados are totally adorable. But... if you're brand new to crocheting, I wouldn't advise starting here. The pattern is fairly simple, but the yarn is fairly fine, and I find it's a lot easier to see the stitches and know you're working into the right stitch, especially with increases and whatnot when you start out with a heavier yarn while you learn. Or maybe I'm just old and my vision is going, but I found the tiny six-stitch starter rings really hard to work with with. But yeah, the guys you end up with are super cute!
